This is the only Banjo Surfboard by Gordie known to exist! While it's far from perfect condition, it's extreme rarity makes this once-in-a-lifetime find worth of a museum. The rails on the deck side step down (aprox. 1/4"+/-) along the edges of the round area on the tail, runs from the tip of the pin tail up 36" towards the nose. And the bottom has a rather deep and wide channel (about 3/8" at its deepest) that starts wide at the tail (13"), narrows at the middle (8") and flares back out as it reaches the nose (11"). Dimensions are 9' 4" x 21 1/2" at center and 23" at the wide spot near tail. There are several faded Gordie labels. This important board would certainly be worthy of proper restoration. Banjo boards are very uncommon and this is the only Gordie known to exist. Here's a beautiful all original late 1950s to early 1960s solid balsa wood board. This terrific board features a classic reverse or kelp cutter style fin that was used and popularized by the highly regarded and collected Hobie - Phil Edwards model. The balsa used is 5" wide which was typically only used on the earlier balsa boards. There may be a label under the vintage red pigment but we thought it's not worth removing to find out.
