1920s GUNDERSON PAINTING

|
Andrew Gunderson, (1898 - 1964.) Moonlight Seascape, Honolulu, by one of the foremost and noted American pastel artist Andrew Gunderson, (1898 - 1964.) No date is given for this silhouetted rendering but the pastel is housed in an Arts and Crafts era gesso and wood frame with an all over dark gold gilt patina, we guess it to be about 1920s. The painting itself, measures 13 5/8" wide by 19 1/2" long and is signed lower left, 'Gunderson'. The painting, though dark, displays, blues, green, greys, golds, and black.
With the frame, 2" per side is added to the measurements. The 2" moulding has 2 coves and 3 beads with a 1 1/4" mottled gold center. There are a few scratches in the mottling that are covered with tinted wax and barely noticeable. The corner designs are 3" long from the tip of each corner. The frame does show some age but in general, it is a most attractive frame. The frame is original and made by the MGC Co., of Chicago, Ill. The backing paper is almost entirely gone. We did not remove the work from the frame but it could be done and the interior of the glass cleaned. The old glass also has two pencil point dings that are seen at close inspection, very difficult to find. There is no damage to the painting and is in excellent condition... A Rare Original that looks just awesome in person!!!
