Vintage 1965 Hobie - Dick Brewer Gun 11' 2"
AWESOME, AWESOME big wave gun! Fewer than 100 were ever built, this one is number 30.
Often referred to as the Ferrari of big wave guns, these impressive specimens are legendary. The master gunsmith of the 60s, Dick Brewer was recruited by Hobie to produce a limited number of elephant guns. These boards were not only elegant surf craft, they were and still are exquisite examples of the highest form of surf art.
Of the less than 100 of these finely crafted rhino chasers shaped, very few are known to still exist and this is one of the longest. The signature t-band outrigger stringers are made with 3/4" high density sea green foam sandwiched by 1/4" redwood is a match for the sea green high density tail block. The center 1/2" stringer is also redwood. The dazzling, classic Brewer speed fin is still in excellent condition. Truly a captivating big wave weapon that has been expertly repaired and re-glossed, ready for a museum.
All of the 60s guns have been steadily increasing in value, particularly in the past several years as more collectors have become aware of their significance and rarity.
The Hobie-Brewer guns are the creme de la creme of mid 60s guns. A 10' 2" fully restored Hobie - Dick Brewer #5 just sold in July 2011 for $11,000 after fees.
